Blessings in a Backpack is a national initiative to minimize food inequality for school-age children by providing snacks for them to take home on weekends during the school year. The Junior League of Akron supports Blessings in a Backpack – Akron by packing food once a month at McEbright Elementary School. Volunteers save and donate plastic grocery bags and then setup and go through an assembly line to pack an average of 10 easy-to-prepare or ready-to-eat snacks to support children in four area schools.
